The 2025 Girls Hockey team kicked off the season with a new coach and an exciting 4-0 win. Jonathan Silverstein, our team’s assistant coach last season, has stepped into the role of head coach. This year, Coach Silverstein has focused practices on teaching a variety of new drills and techniques. Students’ developed skills have played an important role in the team’s recent wins.
Senior Leeraz Joseph said, “I’m really excited for the rest of the season. I can see the improvement every practice, and I can tell everyone is passionate about the game. So far, we have had a successful season, so I am confident we will keep winning and make the playoffs!”
In an upset against Ramaz, Heschel left with the win in overtime thanks to sophomore Mika Afriat, who scored the winning goal. When talking about this game, captain Olivia Levine said, “Winning this game is promising because it shows we actually have a chance to compete in our league this season. Especially because going into this game, we were all convinced we were going to lose.”
This year, the team consists of mostly underclassmen. Freshman Nava Kastner said, “Joining the team as a freshman was originally a bit intimidating, but so far I have found it to be a great experience getting to know the sport and my teammates. A few highlights from the season so far would have to be our games, because they are super fun, and I am learning and improving so much.”
At the end of April, the team was 3-1-1, defeating SKA, Central, and Ramaz, tying Kushner, and losing to Maayanot. The rest of the season is looking bright for this team, as they are dominating so far. Make sure to support the hockey team and go Heat!
