The boys varsity soccerteam traveled to Brooklyn on Thursday night to take on Waldorf, a team the Heat failed to beat on two occasions last season. Theteam decisively won the match 4-1 via a hat-trick from freshman James Barnea and a goal from sophomore Aaron Koffman.
The match got off to a tense start: Waldorf was proving to be among Heschel’s most formidable opponents this season with their physically intense style of play. But then, Koffman’s goal broke the deadlock. From that point onwards Heschel dominated the match and ended the half with a 2-1 advantage.
The second half was more of the same from the Heat as they continued to dominate in possession. Barnea sealed the team’s stellar performance with two more goals. The goals were the result of the Heat’s impressive build-up play and quick passing which they hope to replicate throughout the rest of the season.
Thursday’s victory firmly established Heschel as the top team in their division and bodes well for the Heat’s playoff aspirations. The team maintains its undefeated record as it prepares for next week’s rematch against Waldorf.
