This year, Heschel rolled out a new initiative: office hours. This 30-minute time block on Fridays, which is split up by grade, guarantees time to meet with your teachers. This is especially beneficial for students with out-of-school commitments and for students who need to use their lunch periods for extra time.
Junior Lily Weinberger expressed her appreciation for this initiative: “Especially during junior year, I’m grateful that there is an opportunity where I have time to meet with teachers, especially since I’m so busy during the week.”
Teachers are equally enthusiastic about office hours. “I usually have a few students come to office hours and it has seemed helpful to them,” science and math teacher Brian Sullivan said. “It’s particularly helpful when people have missed class or just want more practice or have extra help.”
Students often feel overwhelmed with work during the week and may hesitate to ask for help from teachers. With office hours, everyone has a designated time to seek assistance, making it easier to address their academic needs.
By making academic support more accessible, Heschel is fostering a more successful and stress-free student body.
