Each year, Heschel’s talented performers take the stage to bring a beloved musical to life. After many years of persistent requests, Heschel’s theater department, led by Ned Ginsburg, finally brought Mamma Mia! to our stage. Due to prolonged practicing and admirable commitment, the cast of Mamma Mia! produced 3 performances. With incredible vocals, fantastic choreography and a spectacular set design, the production left students in awe of their classmates’ talents.
Set on a Greek Island, Mamma Mia! follows young Sophie, played by junior Dani Grinker, as she prepares for her wedding. Sophie secretly invites three men from her mother’s past, any of whom could be her father, to her wedding. Her mother, Donna, portrayed by senior Aerin Levine, navigates the chaos of their unexpected arrival alongside her two childhood friends. This show is filled with humor, energy, and show-stopping musical numbers featuring ABBA’s songs. Throughout the play, the audience sang and clapped along, admiring the cast’s excellent delivery of their lines.
“I loved every second of it,” junior Avi Spanier said. “The energy was amazing and you could tell how much fun the cast was having.”
When asked about her experience as Sophie, Junior Dani Grinker said, “It’s such a great community and a great bonding experience. Some of the best memories of high school that I’ve made so far have been being involved with the play. It’s challenging and people work really hard for it, but it’s so worth it.”
We are so proud of the cast’s hard work and remarkable performance. We eagerly await next year’s play!
