The food on this year’s 10th grade Israel trip far surpassed many students’ expectations. While school lunch is great, no plain pasta or cheese and flounder sandwiches can compete with fresh Israeli food.
Tenth graders began their trip at the hotel on Kibbutz Ramat Rachel. For breakfast, they enjoyed a wide array of pastries, salads, yogurts and beverages. The hotel even had an omelet station where students befriended Richard, the omelet master. Lunch and dinner consisted of the same delicious foods: schnitzel, rice, Israeli salad, and lots of hummus! During free time at Machaneh Yehudah Market in Jerusalem, students savored challah schnitzel sandwiches and rugelach from the famous Marzipan bakery.
Even in the desert, the food was great. Sophomore Elana Farbiaz shared, “Every night they made us delicious chicken soup which I loved. I also really enjoyed all of the other meals in the desert!”
At Kibbutz Afik, students weren’t thrilled with the food options for lunch and dinner, but loved the chocolate croissants and rugelach served for breakfast.
When reflecting on the last few days of our trip, faculty member Samantha Brandspiegel shared, “While I am a huge meat eater, I was so thankful to get a delicious pizza in Katzrin after so many days of schnitzel and rice.
