This year, the Heschel High School welcomes Anne Cohen as its new High School Assistant Head. Born in New York City, Cohen spent most of her childhood in Westchester before attending Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. Growing up, Cohen was interested in musical theater and dancing, leading her to work in music education. She eventually transitioned into school administration.
Cohen started working at Heschel over the summer, at which point planning for the new school year had already begun. Cohen immediately faced the challenge of working on the school’s master schedule, a process she described as especially requiring meticulous attention, because of Heschel’s “wide array of courses.” She compared the schedule to a “puzzle,” with the challenge of determining room numbers, electives, schedule changes, and other important logistics.
Cohen said her first few weeks at Heschel have been vibrant and active. “Everyone has been so friendly and helpful,” Cohen said. She said that if she could deliver one message to the entire student body, she would remind everyone how lucky they are to attend a school that respects them and values their success.
