Holly Jackson’s Five Survive is a mystery book full of secrets and betrayal. The book follows six friends, Red, Maddy, Oliver, Reyna, Simon, and Arthur, who get trapped by a sniper in an RV while on a road trip during spring break.
As the six friends try to figure out a way to escape, tensions in the RV rise. Without cell service, their trust in each other wanes minute by minute. Their only communication to the outside world is a walkie-talkie the sniper gave them. To leave, the kids must give the sniper what he wants: a secret that someone in the RV won’t share.
Five Survive is a solid five-star book. Jackson’s attention to detail, along with the depth of each character, makes it worth reading. The story really keeps you on the edge of your seat; maybe don’t read it in an RV, though, as you might have some difficulty sleeping at night.
