The Jewish world has been in shock since Oct. 7. While many Jewish athletes have demonstrated their support through drawings on their uniforms and posts on social media, two New York Yankees went above and beyond in their activism.

Yankees Minor League pitchers Eric Reyzelman and Harrison Cohen started the clothing brand, Together 18, on Oct. 19 to deploy their positions as professional athletes and public figures to foster change. The “18” in the name corresponds to the gematria (or numerical value) of Chai in Hebrew, meaning life.

In an Instagram post, Reyzelman said, “We are proud to announce the launch of Together 18, a non-profit dedicated to representing and supporting Israel’s fight for peace, and light over darkness.”

Reyzelman and Cohen have since released a variety of T-shirts, hoodies and caps with the Together 18 logo that are available for purchase. All proceeds go straight to organizations supporting humanitarian efforts in Israel. 

This organization quickly caught the attention of Jewish NBA G-League player, Ryan Turell, as well as the first practicing Orthodox Jew to be drafted to the MLB, Jacob Steinmetz. Both athletes expressed their support for Together 18 on Instagram, bringing even more attention in the ever growing Jewish sports world. 

Heschel Baseball’s first baseman, junior Eli Goldman, said, “I applaud their mission and admire that they took advantage of the platform they have to spread the message and raise some money.”
