The dialogue surrounding Artificial Intelligence policy has revolved around students since its conception. But what about teachers?
Naviance, the online portal through which teachers submit their recommendations, now includes an option for AI to write a recommendation. That is, as of the 2025-2026 fall admissions cycle, teachers are offered Generative AI. Aside from the ethical fact that using AI’s writing and calling it one’s own is plagiarism and dishonest, this particular use can legitimately alter our acceptances.
The sole value of teacher recommendations is that they are personal. If a teacher uses AI, their recommendation will simply be less personal and thereby less valuable, potentially hurting students in the application process.
Teachers have faith in us not to use AI on our assignments, and now, we must have faith in them.
