Every year, Heschel’s theater lovers gather together to showcase their talents and put on a play. This year, they performed Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Featuring beautiful costumes, excellent acting, and phenomenal singing, the play left high school students impressed with the talent of their peers.
The play centers around a theme of justice. Taking place in a kingdom ruled by Prince Topher, played by sophomore Charlie Shiff, the peasants of the nation are mistreated and have their land taken away. Prince Topher falls in love with Cinderella, a poor servant girl masterfully performed by senior Jayden Podchlebnik, and together, the two restore harmony among the rich and poor in the town. Overall, the show was very well executed, and it carried a meaningful and hopeful message.
“It was so much fun to watch,” junior Manuela Sinayuk said. “The audience was energetic and the actors did an amazing job.”
Junior Maya Ortner, who played Cinderella’s stepsister Charlotte, spoke about her experience as a cast member. “Most of us have been working on the play since the very beginning of the school year, so it was extremely rewarding to see it all come together,” Ortner said. “We had a lot of fun together and I think that all of us are really proud of how the show came out.”
This year’s play left a lasting impression on Heschel students. We can’t wait to see another amazing musical next year!
